America the Beautiful
Join us at Niles North High School on September 28 for a showing of America the Beautiful, a powerful documentary that explores America's obsession with beauty and physical perfection. The movie examines how this obsession is contributing to a rise in low self-esteem, body disorders and unhealthy behaviors - especially for the beauty industry's largest consumers - young women and girls. And, the film takes a hard look at the consequences of a constant barrage of media messages that all focus on a similar theme; you're not good enough for anyone to love unless you look like a supermodel or rock star.
Doors open at 6:30pm and the film will begin at 7:00pm. After the film, stay for discussion with Darryl Roberts (the film's director, writer, and narrator) and Matthew Selekman (local and nationally known expert on adolescent self harm).
The program is free, open to the public and there will be 2.5 CEU's available for those that qualify for social work or counseling continuing education credits.
Links is partnering with Response, Haven, JCARES, and Niles North High School to bring you this event. The presentation is appropriate for parents, grandparents, teens, young adults, educators, etc.
Hope to see you there!
